What's so great about books?

I always get a book or two for Christmas (usually because I’ve asked for them).

Books make a great Christmas present.

They’re great to receive.

And easy to give. Good value and suited to every taste.

There’s a book for everything.

So much knowledge hidden in their pages.

Facts, opinions or stories.

Characters real or fictional, each with a different experience of life.

Learn about the world around you from the comfort of your home.

Or whilst you’re on the move.

Or on holiday.

Even if you can’t physically hold a book you can always listen to one.

But the paper ones look cooler.

Covers of all different kinds. Paperback and hardback.

Coffee table and pocket sized.

There’s something very reassuring about holding an average book in your hands.

Especially when the cover has a smooth matte finish. I’m a big fan of those.

Books look great on a shelf. Add colour to the room.

Great conversation starter. ‘I enjoyed that, what did you think?’

Unfortunately, you can’t just absorb knowledge by standing next to them.

You have to invest in books. Which is a good thing.

There’s a wholesome satisfaction to finishing another chapter of a book.

You’ve accomplished something.

You’re not going to like every book you read but it’s good to give things a try.

(Also, you don’t have to finish it! If it’s really not happening, it’s ok to give up. Put it down.)

Books are a way of speaking to each other.

Of being heard.

Not everyone’s thoughts need to be heard. But at least they have that chance.

Some things which ought to be heard wouldn’t be heard at all if it weren’t for books.

Books are a marker. A waypoint. Each book you read leaves you with something new.

Regardless of the author’s intention.

New perspectives. Heartstrings tugged. Mind expanded.

Books could change your life.

That’s what’s so great about books.
